This year has completely flown by and I can’t believe it’s already November. November means a lot of different things to me. It’s the beginning of my countdown to Christmas and my birthday. It’s the changing season and arrival of cozy clothing choices. It’s also a time to give thanks for what we have and to relish the important things in life like friends and family. I can’t wait until Thanksgiving to have a little vacation and spend some time with family. I am grateful for so many things and I think about them all year long but Thanksgiving is a time to really celebrate them. What are you most thankful for this November?
Interstellar – This movie blew my mind. I loved everything about it: the acting, writing, storyline, visuals, score, everything was stunning. I’ve been thinking about it ever since I watched it. Although there have been mixed reviews about the science behind the movie, it doesn’t really matter as it’s a work of fiction and it was incredible just to see this story that was imagined and put into this beautiful package. I think I need to see this movie about 40 more times in order to understand everything in it, which I so look forward to doing. I do suggest seeing it in IMAX if possible because it is so worth it. It always blows my mind thinking about how movies are made and the long and grueling process that is required to put them together and seeing this beautiful movie really made me marvel at that process.
Macbook – I finally gave in and bought myself a new laptop. I’ve never owned an apple computer before but I chose to invest in a macbook and I’ve loved every minute of using it. Its going to be great for creating new content for the blog and keeping myself motivated to keep adding to this website.
Food Photography – I’m still obsessed with food photography. There is so much great photography out there and I have been totally into photographs of food lately. It’s amazing how great the simplest foods can look when they are photographed in certain ways. My pinterest has been crammed with so many food photos that it probably looks like that’s all I look at but I can’t help myself. One blog I recently found is Adventures in Cooking. I’m in love with her moody food photography so much that even though I do not cook, I find myself gushing over all of her photos. One day when I actually start cooking, this blog will be the first one I go to to recreate a recipe.
Serial Podcast – Serial is a podcast by the producers of This American Life and it follows a story of a man that was put away for the murder of his ex girlfriend. The podcast goes through elements of the crime episode by episode breaking down seemingly every part of this trial revealing more and more details in each episode. From the very first episode I was hooked. It is so well produced and put together that every week I look forward to the new episode and wish they were longer. I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds but also don’t want it to be over.
Beauty Protector Protect and Detangle – I know I’ve posted about this product before but it is my very favorite hair product. I’ve tried so many other hair products but this one leaves my hair so soft and manageable and amazing smelling that I don’t think I will ever go back to anything else. I am so thankful that Birchbox helped me discover this product that helps tame my wild hair.
BKR bottle – This isn’t really a product I tried out beforehand but I’d been looking to buy a reusable water bottle for daily use and these just kept catching my eye. I was going to buy one anyway but because I bought this one from Birchbox, I actually earned points on it which is the great thing about this service. I love this bottle and use it every day. Now I just need one in every color!
Vasanti Brighten Up Exfoliator – This is a great weekly or every other day exfoliator. It isn’t too abrasive and leaves skin feeling soft and refreshed after use. It has also lasted quite a while, 10 months and still counting.
DDF Acne Control Treatment – I use this product after cleansing and toning at night and it really works for me. I notice that when using this treatment my face is more blemish free. An acne product that works has been hard for me to find so I have reordered this a few times.
Davines Love Smoothing Conditioner – This conditioner worked very well to condition my hair and smooth out frizziness. I liked that it came in a tub although it did make it a little difficult to open and use.
RumbaTIME Union Gem – This watch is the cutest. When I was younger I always wore watches. That has changed as I’ve gotten earlier but I’d been wanting to find a nice watch to get me back into wearing them. This one is so cute and comfortable and since I chose white, it can go with everything.[all photos from the birchbox website]
Halloween has always held a special place in my heart. It is a time when people are more inclined to be silly and have fun and a time to dress up and have fun with your friends. I remember as a kid being so excited for the candy and always making out like bandits with pillowcases full of candy. As a kid I somehow managed to contract some kind of sickness just in time to ruin my trick-or-treating. This happed a few years when I was younger and it always majorly bummed me out. I had to sit at home in my room sadly staring at my costume that was never to be worn to trick-or-treat and beg my parents for candy. My costumes as a child were pretty cliche, involving many a Disney character. I was Pocahontas, snow white, little red riding hood, dorothy, etc… One day I will have to find all of these photos and relive my childhood Halloween glory.
Thankfully those days are behind me and I know how to keep the fall flu away as an adult and dress up as something fun to go out with my friends. I have never been the girl who dresses provocatively which translates to my Halloween costumes as well. In college, if we dressed up for Halloween, our costumes tended towards humor rather than scantily clad. One year we went as characters from Joe Dirt. The next year we went as the different phases of Britney Spears which was probably one of my favorites (I was pink haired Britney).
Nowadays, I tend to be the one who can never think of costume ideas in time for Halloween. I started writing down costumes that I would think of during the year that I would love to wear so when Halloween came around, I would have some sort of idea to work with. Here are some costume ideas that I will hopefully someday make happen.
Wednesday Addams – I loved the Addams family movies when I was a kid and Wednesday speaks to my dark side. This costume would also be simple to recreate and it might make an appearance sooner rather than later.
Do you go all out for Halloween costumes or do you keep it simple when it comes to dressing up? Tell me your Halloween costume ideas below!
Obviously all I can currently think about is the changing season and the impending move towards cool weather. It hasn’t happened yet but I can feel the weather getting ready to cool down and that has got me thinking about all of the great wardrobe choices that fall brings. Fall for me really opens doors to a wardrobe I lean more naturally towards. I love scarves and boots and sweaters and hate to see them in my closet unused for the warmer months. The following are my favorite pieces to wear during the fall.
Scarves are one of my all time favorite things to wear during the colder months and I have quite the collection. Once the weather changes I tend to get cold very easily. I love that scarves can keep you warm and be a stylish addition to an outfit. My favorite scarves are usually cowl neck thick styles or patterned square shaped thin fabric scarves that can be wrapped multiple times and give the same thick look as a cowl neck. I’m also drawn towards the darker colors because they just scream fall to me.
Sweaters are also a sign that autumn has finally arrived. I love the possibilities that layering sweaters can bring and the look that they give. And also the warmth. I like to go either colorful with a sweater or neutral so I can wear more colorful pants or scarves.

Boots are what I look forward to wearing all year. The style I am most drawn to is ankle boots. As usual, I’m drawn towards black ankle boots but I also love other neutrals and am always searching for a new favorite pair. I’m always so happy when I get to break these out of hiding from my closet.
One department I am definitely lacking in is outerwear. Coats are something I have a love/hate relationship with. I LOVE the look and function of coats for cold weather but I never can find a coat that I’m completely in love with. I will have to continue this search before this season gets into full swing. I’ve been looking for a shorter version as I have a few longer styles that aren’t always the most functional. A colorful coat is a major attention grabber and I would love to find one that could go with many different outfits.
What are your favorite staple fall clothing pieces? Anything you are particularly excited to wear? ♡
I love Pinterest. Like, a lot. It is something that honestly brings me such great joy. At the end of the day, I love to scroll through my feed and the popular tab to look at all of the beautiful images. There are so many inspiring images and quotes and diy projects. There are a few categories that I’m always drawn to including typography and food photography. Here are a few pins that have really caught my eye lately.
Food photography has been one of the categories lately that I have really been drawn to. I am so drawn to photos with dark backgrounds or wood backgrounds. The quality of food photographs can sincerely be so enticing to eat the food that they depict. I love seeing how the different lighting and background combinations that can really showcase the foods. source: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
Typography has always been a favorite of mine. Lately I’ve been looking into inspiration from different typographic sources. I love seeing what people are doing and gathering inspiration for my own creations. source: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
And then there are Ecards. Certain Ecards feel like they were written specifically for me and put into words so perfectly and hilariously things that I think about. It’s great to browse through them when you need a laugh and find one that relates to you perfectly. source: 1 | 2
So tell me: what’s your favorite type of thing to pin?
Nerdist – Hosted by Chris Hardwick, these podcasts are usually celebrity interviews and are so funny. Chris is a comedian and he’s so good at getting his interview-ees to open up. Listening to these is usually an hour of me trying not to laugh out loud in my office.
Life moves so quickly. Lately I’ve been trying to take time to myself and do things that make me happy since I’ve felt in a bit of a funk. Something as simple as getting into a new show or buying a new shirt can really bring joy to my day and I marvel at how the smallest things can really make a difference in changing my perspective.
The end of summer is always bitter sweet. Although I am so ready for autumn and the reprieve from this endless heat, I will miss the summer days and warm nights that summer brings. This summer has been pretty eventful. I’ve loved being able to hang out with friends, take a few trips and see a lot of shows. Visiting San Diego, Santa Monica, and seeing a few of my favorite musical acts in concert; this summer has been full of fun, family and friends. Here’s to what has been an awesome summer and what will hopefully be an even better fall.
