Life has gotten the better of me lately and it feels like there hasn’t been time for much besides getting through the day to day, which is why I haven’t posted here in so long. The new year has included me trying to get healthier and be more spontaneous which has led to a much less free time. I’ve also been starting to plan a trip overseas that I’m really excited about. Hopefully I will have some content based on some travel related fun and more soon, but for now I leave you with this little creation. Have a great week!
Some days/ weeks it is so hard to motivate myself to get to the gym. The desire to get healthy and more fit sometimes just doesn’t cut it. Taking new classes and doing different workouts are a couple of the ways I get motivated. Another thing that motivates me is good workout gear. Having cute and useful workout gear seriously helps me get to my workouts. I’ve rounded up a few things here that have helped me kick my butt into gear.
01 | Blender Bottle – Hydrating at the gym is so important but I always forget about bringing a water bottle to the gym. Having a cute bottle to bring to the gym has definitely helped me remember my water. The little handle at the top is great for portability and I can clip my keys right to it when I need to.
02 | Nike Training Shoes – I have the Nike free running shoes already but I’m itching to try out these training shoes for use when I take classes or use the machines at the gym. These are stylish while integrating color with my go-to combo of black and white.
03 | Fitbit – Since I’ve gotten my Fitbit, I’ve used it almost every day. I love being able to track my steps and calories more precisely. It’s really helpful to see progress and motivating to workout to make sure you have enough steps for the day.
04 | VS Pink Tanks – I love these ranks for working out. They provide enough coverage while also being a loose enough fit and breathable fabric. Love the different color options and have been rocking them at the gym lately.
05 | Think Thin Lean Protein Bars – Great snacks go right along with great workout gear. These bars are great for getting the energy needed to make it through those tough workouts. They give you enough energy without any crash. It’s nice to have a few of these on hand for snack cravings. The chunky peanut butter is my fave.
I love discovering new things. For me, finding a new tv show, podcast or book to get into is one of the best feelings in the world. Summer is a time of reinvention. Of infinite possibilities and new frontiers to discover. A time to remember who you are and rediscover what you love. Sometimes I wish that summer would never end. But then I remember winter and all of my favorite things from the colder seasons and realize all good things must come to an end. So while the heat is still here, I will continue to enjoy the summer and the adventures it brings and hope you do the same. ♥︎
The time change marks the official start of spring for me. The weather is wonderful, the plants are changing and everything seems fresh. I love spring and seeing all of the blooming flowers. The scent make me nostalgic for my childhood. Since it’s so beautiful and the temperatures finally allow it, I’ve been trying to spend more time outside. I’ve planted some succulents, visited San Francisco and started thinking about more trips I will take once summer comes along. I’m really looking forward to the summer and being able to take some time off. Here’s to spring!
I love taking weekend trips. They are a really great way to take a break from work and get the most from your weekend. With only a couple days to travel during the weekend, it’s the perfect opportunity to visit places relatively near where you live. I typically end up going to the same places but there are so many places I haven’t visited that are so close to where I live. This year I really want to make a dent in that list. These are just are a few places I would love to visit on some weekend trips.
San Diego – I’ve been to San Diego many times before but I always love it and always want to go back. It’s only a short flight from where I live so it would be the perfect weekend trip. The vibe in San Diego is great and there are always new places to see. The city is so large that there would be many different things to see in one trip. I really want to visit some of the breweries in the area and hang out in the downtown area.
Las Vegas – Las Vegas is another place that I’ve been to a few times, but there is always fun to be had there. There’s so much in Vegas that I still haven’t seen that I would love to see. I’ve always wanted to see Fremont Street in Las Vegas as well as make it to the many casinos on the strip that I have never been to.
Arizona – Two words: Antelope Canyon. This is a place I want to see so badly. The photographs of this place are too amazing for words and I feel a need to witness it in person. Do yourself a favor and google photos of Antelope Canyon. You won’t be sorry. I’m sure there is more to see in Arizona but that is definitely where I would start.
Seattle – The space needle, the first Starbucks, the gum wall and Pike Place Market are a few places I’d love to see in Seattle. I also really love the rain so it would be pretty cool to see a place that is rainy a majority of the time.
Chicago – Chicago is a place that I’ve flown through a few times on my way to somewhere else. There are so many things in this city that I would like to see that it’s pretty unfortunate that I’ve only flown through it. I love being able to compare the big cities that I’ve visited to each other. Seeing all the differences between places I visit is really one of my favorite parts of traveling.
Some days/ weeks the only thing I can think about is getting to Friday. Let’s be honest, most weeks are like this, am I right? Once Friday comes along, I know it’s only a few short hours of work separating me from relaxation. We all have so much going on in our lives that it can feel overwhelming just getting through the week. I often need motivation in order to get to Fridays because the weeks can start to feel like they will last forever. The monotony of the daily grind can really get to you unless you have ways to break up the week and do things you actually enjoy. Here are a few things I do in order to make the wait to Friday more enjoyable.
Friend Time – Sometimes you just need a little pick me up during the week. Grabbing dinner or drinks with friends can really do a lot to alleviate the stress of the week and put you in the right mind frame to make it to Friday.
Gym Time – Going to the gym after work instead of going straight home helps me to not only get in some exercise but also helps tire myself out in order to get a restful nights sleep. By getting this extra exercise and sleep, the rest of the week really seems to go by much more smoothly.
Make Something – Be it art, food, music, or whatever your passion, creating during the week is the ultimate motivation. I love feeling like I accomplished something personal during the week to make it feel like I really earned my weekend.
Read – Reading is the ultimate relaxation for me. Taking time to read a book or magazine is a luxury that I usually save for the weekends but taking a little time out of a weekday evening to read can motivate you to kick the weekday blues. It can also be the best way to help myself fall asleep.
Movie – I tend to avoid watching movies during the week. It usually feels too decadent to sit still for 2 hours to fully enjoy a movie during the week when there is so much to do. But some weeks, it’s a luxury that is completely necessary. It’s so nice to curl up with a movie you’ve never seen and maybe learn something new.
1// Gilmore Girls on Netflix – I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it here before, but I’m obsessed with Gilmore Girls. And not in a ‘oh I love that show’ kind of way but in an ‘I’ve watched every episode a million times and can quote almost all of it’ kind of way. And although I have every season on DVD (and have watched them countless times), having every episode on Netflix is so amazing and convenient to be able to watch them on my iPad or laptop any time I want. A Gilmore obsessed girls’ dream come true.
2// John Green – Ever since I read A Fault In Our Stars, I’ve fallen in love with John Green’s writing. So far I’ve also read Paper Towns and Looking For Alaska and I’ve started An Abundance of Katherines. Although his writing is typically centered around teenagers, the themes of the books seem much older than the characters. I love the way he writes; the imagery and the multi faceted characters he creates really make you think about life and bigger things in the world.
3// Clarisonic – I treated myself to one of these around my birthday in the cutest color. I love how clean this makes my skin feel after using it. I really feel like it removes more dirt and makeup and helps my skin absorb products better. I love the fact that you can use different brush heads with it and different speeds for a truly customized skin care routine.
4// Trivia Crack – This game is literally crack. It’s all about knowing little bits of random trivia. Once I get started playing it, it’s really hard to stop. It’s a great game to have around when you have nothing else to do and want to be entertained. Plus, learning random facts while playing is an added bonus.
5// Tartlette Palette – No one loves an all matte palette more than I do. Matte eyeshadows for me are much easier to wear than shimmers. This palette has 12 different matte shadows ranging from very light to very dark. I love all of the shades included in this palette. They are all very wearable and buildable. The combination of the gold and purple packing with the versatile shades makes this palette a major winner.
Happy 2015! I hope your new year has gotten off to a great start. I took a little time off at the end of the year to enjoy the holidays which was really nice and something I need to do more often. Now that it’s January, it’s the time of year we start thinking about the things we want to change in our lives and the resolutions we want to make for the rest of the year. I think that evaluating your life at the beginning of the year can be really helpful for focusing your energy for the rest of the year and for keeping your priorities in order. Since January is almost over, I’ve had time to think about what I want for the rest of my year.
No soda or alcohol – I’ve decided that for the month of January I will give up soda and alcohol. So far I haven’t had a sip of either and I feel really good about it. Not only is it a test of my willpower but it’s a chance to start the new year in a more healthy way. Since December was a month of over indulgence, I figured January should be a month of healthier habits.
Get Stronger – I’m excited to start the new year with making more time for working out. No matter what, when I work out, I feel better. This has been something I’d been really missing at the end of the year so getting back to it will be a great way to kick off 2015.
More Traveling – I really want to start to travel on my own. I love to travel but I’ve never really gone to a new city and traveled on my own. I’d really like to plan some trips for myself to do whatever I want and to see places that I’ve never seen.
Volunteer – Another thing I’ve been wanting to do for a long time is to find a place I would like to volunteer. Checking volunteermatch.com helped me to see what type of opportunities are out there. I think I would really like to start out with volunteering with animals since I love animals and don’t have any of my own.
Take Classes – I’ve also been wanting to do this for a long time. In addition to new workout classes, I’d love to take some sort of art class that forces me to learn new skills. Learning new things is something that I really love and by taking classes, I would get to learn lots of new things.
Create More – I’d love to start focusing more on making my own art. I’ve always loved creating and haven’t made time to really work on much art. I love making stuff for the blog but I’d love to also brush up on my sketching skills and learn some new skills like watercolor or ceramics.
